Welcome to Ancient Breathwork for Modern Life. We are so happy you are here and practicing with us!

In this course we willI share with you a multitude of breathing practices and movements, some of which date back to Patanjali, the Father of Yoga! These are the tools the Yogis from the Himalayas used to bring their body, mind, and electromagnetic field back to life after sitting in Samadhi (deep meditation) for an extended period.

Most of us use a very small percentage of our lung capacity, breathing very shallowly for much of our life. These classes will help you expand your breath capacity and wellbeing, tame your wild mind, soothe your anxious and fearful heart, and perhaps transform your understanding of the power of your breath altogether.

Some of the many benefits of the types of breathing practices you will do are:

  • stimulate the vagus nerve (activates the parasympathetic nervous system)
  • condition the cardiovascular system (heart, arteries and lungs)
  • balance the hormones
  • clean the blood
  • clear and calm the mind
  • improve digestion and have more regular elimination
  • balance the emotions (relieve anxiety, depression, fear, stress)
  • bolster the adrenal system
  • soothe the nervous system
  • strengthen your electromagnetic field
  • bring a beautiful healthy glow to your face
  • reduce back, hip and neck pain
  • strengthen the immune system
  • create a beautiful glow from your face and eyes

One of my students, Mandy, shared with me after only a few weeks of taking my classes consistently that she had been suffering from frozen shoulder for about a year, then had rotator cuff repair surgery, followed by months of physical therapy. She had decided to try my Ancient Breathwork for Modern Life classes because they were breath-based, and she figured she could skip any of the shoulder stuff. She was so excited to tell me that she was experiencing huge progress in improved strength, range of motion, stamina, and flexibility - and not just in her shoulder! She was so happy and with her results that she posted this on social media,

"Just finishing another class, and am not only glowing with energy, but am amazed at how far I have come in three weeks. If you are on the fence or just curious, join and do what you can. You will be rewarded much more than you can anticipate! Thank you Allyn for providing this healing experience!"

PEOPLE ARE RAVING ABOUT PRACTICING WITH ALLYN!

"OMG you are the best!! I have been taking all the classes you posted (for the studio). You are the most amazing teacher, and an incredible soul!! Love you my dear Allyn, and thank you for being you!" ~ Jara M.

“Hi Allyn, I wanted to thank you for a truly blessed and beautiful breathwork class today for my family and friends. We were all amazed and in awe of your teaching abilities. You touched us and made a memorable birthday for Aber. Until next time...” ~ Noelle R.

"Allyn could not be a better teacher and mentor for ultimate health. I met her as my yoga teacher and I was one of those classic quitters, could never find a studio or teacher who worked for me, felt awkward, distracted, etc. From the moment I stepped into her class, I was transformed. Her expertise, calming instruction, positive countenance and judgement free process is a joy to be a part of. I have been a student ever since, now practicing 3-5 times a week." ~ Donna S.

“I've learned so much from Allyn! I feel better about my body and now have amazing tools to continue to achieve a healthier and happier lifestyle! The yoga classes included all levels (I was a beginner and some were advanced) and it worked well. With her encouraging, gentle approach I found I can do more than I ever thought possible!” ~ Aileen B.

"These classes are amazing. They definitely reduce the impact of stress and isolation. Your attention to detail and precision on how the body works has helped repair my shoulder. It's wonderful how you have created such an intimate fun healing space online!" ~ Caren R.

"During the first week of these classes, Allyn asked: Do you have enough energy to do what you want to do daily? These classes are energizing me to greet my mornings with YES!" ~ TA

"This class has been challenging for me, in many ways. Many days I think I am too tired...but then I do the class and am amazed at how energized I feel at the end. I cannot always do all the exercises for as long or as fast as everyone else, but Allyn's encouragement to modify as needed has allowed me to proceed at a pace that works for me. I love the fact that every part of my body, literally from head to toe, is getting the opportunity to move, expand, and relax. It's good to be challenged at this point in life!" ~ Joan W.

"I have a pretty major cervical spine injury, so I was concerned that I was not going to be able to do the yoga. Allyn helped me make a few modifications, and I am able to fully participate. I have seen a significant reduction of the amount of pain that I daily endure, and completely eliminated some lower back pain I had been experiencing. I have found the breathwork a real challenge, yet notice I've been breathing easier and use my asthma inhaler much less. This experience has been a catalyst for my self care. I highly recommend this practice and thank Allyn for offering this gift." ~ Barrie M.

HOW TO PREPARE:

Create a quiet, clean, calm space in your home or office. Have a yoga mat, cushion or blanket to sit on, or a chair without arms, and a water bottle (sipping hot water is recommended during this practice). Wear comfortable layers to accommodate changes in body temperature. While some of the breathing exercises are very calming and relaxing, others are quite active and invigorating. Don’t be surprised if you feel like you’ve had a full physical workout or yoga practice at the end of these powerful classes!

It is not recommended to eat a meal within 2 hours before these practices. You will be using breathing techniques that exercise the inner body, which is much more comfortable and beneficial on a relatively empty stomach. A very small snack is OK, if needed. Please have a container of drinking water (hot water recommended) with you during practice.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:

Please practice at your own pace! If you are new to your exercise, yoga or breathing practice, take it slowly allowing yourself to build up your capacity and strength little by little. I recommend you do less than you think you can for the first few classes, taking your time to get to know yourself and how your body systems respond to breathing deeply, fast, slow, holding breath in, holding breath out, and the movements we perform. Always follow the recommendation of your healthcare provider.

Many of the breathing exercises look very simple, and many are. But simple does not necessarily mean easy. Do not underestimate these breathing techniques - they are incredibly powerful. They can reduce your heart rate and blood pressure quickly, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, which has great healing benefit for the body systems. And, if these systems drop too suddenly and too dramatically, the result is not desired. I have created a SAFETY VIDEO for you to watch before beginning your practice. In it I talk about how to practice safely during the classes, what to watch for to avoid overdoing and creating a sudden systems drop. I will also remind you often to pay great attention to the way you feel at all times during the practices. Back off from any exercise and take a break whenever you feel you should. A good rule of thumb is...if you feel like it's too much, you're right! Stop, breathe naturally, rest, and when you feel recovered, continue!

I am devoted to your increasing consciousness and greatest health, and am so excited to share this work with you! I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy and benefit greatly each month you join me!

With love,

Allyn

How much yoga experience do I need to have to take this course?
None! The majority of the classes I teach in this course are completely doable for all level of yogis, even first timers. There are no crazy gymnastics like postures, just simple and powerful breathing techniques and movements. I will offer modifications, and recommend you modify any and all movements to suit your body, with whatever issues you are healing today. Some of the Bonus practices require a level of fitness and strength, such as Vinyasa+Breathwork. Many of the other classes offered can be done seated, even if I suggest to stand.
I'm an advanced yogi, is this course for me?
Absolutely! One of the things about being an advanced yogi is realizing that a beginners mind is a powerful tool to help us continue to learn and grow. Many advanced yogis in the West have mastered physical postures and practices, yet may have very little experience with the more subtle parts of yoga such as breathwork and meditation. Many of the practices I offer you here work with the Sukshma Sharira, the subtle body. While much of it is practiced seated or simply standing, the breathwork is dynamic and powerful. Mastering these subtle body practices is incredibly deep and advanced yoga. Don't be surprised if you find these simple looking practices very challenging. Most likely, they are quite different from the yoga you have been practicing!

Way to go, yogi!!! You have completed thirty days of breathwork, sound vibration and movements for the body, mind and energy body!
